Job Title: MRI Technician - Part time -
Company: Location: albuquerque, NM Description: Under general supervision, performs prescribed magnetic resonance imaging procedures requiring specialized knowledge and skills in support of the provision of research and/ or diagnostic services to a specified patient population. May prepare and administer various chemical mixtures as appropriate to the nature of the procedures being carried out. May work in a research or clinical environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned. ? Prepares facilities in accordance with procedural requirements; calibrates equipment, and prepares contrast and materials as required; cleans and disinfects equipment in accordance with sterile procedures and standards. ? Prepares patient for magnetic resonance imaging procedures as appropriate to requirements; explains procedures to patients and positions patients as appropriate to prescribed procedure; assists patients at end of procedure. ? Follows prescribed procedure in the administration of magnetic resonance imaging; determines appropriate calibrations and/or techniques, arranges immobilization and/or support devices, and selects appropriate film or film printing device. ? Develops or prints film as appropriate, in accordance with proper photographic techniques. ? Maintains stock supplies and assists administrators in determining quantities for purchase; performs general office duties such as delivering and retrieving film, recording procedure codes for billing purposes, typing forms, and scheduling patients. ? Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. ? Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED ? Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel. ? Knowledge of the physical and operational characteristics of MRI equipment. ? Ability to safely lift, and physically manipulate patients. ? Ability to calibrate and configure MRI equipment and associated facilities and devices in accordance with procedures and standards. ? Knowledge of appropriate safety measures in dealing with a high field magnet environment ? Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. ? Knowledge of sterile procedures. ? Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards. ? Knowledge of magnetic resonance imaging principles, procedures, and standards. ? Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. ? Knowledge of photographic development techniques. Have two (2) years Regular (twenty (20) hours or more per week) continuous recent experience as a MRI Technologist and be fully proficient in all the duties required of a MRI Technologist II to the satisfaction of the department manager. Must have demonstrated proficiency in teaching other Technologists. May be required to direct, check and train other MRI employee. Must be fully proficient in MRI to the full satisfaction of the department manager and have knowledge of the required protocols in performing complex MRI procedures. Effective oral and written communications skills. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other incumbents of the organization. Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment. Also refer to Position Specifications outlined in the appropriate collective bargaining agreement. DUTIES: Performs patient studies according to set protocol including placing specified coil close to area of interest. Operates imaging and other equipment devices so that quality diagnostic services are provided, including keying commands to specify scan sequences into computer, adjusting transmitters and receivers, and keying in data on keyboard of camera to photograph images. Interviews patient to explain magnetic resonance imaging procedures to address patient concerns and exhibits a high degree of tact, courtesy and poise when interacting with patients, staff, and visitors. Ensures patient and staff safety, including explaining safety alerting staff of danger or carrying metal around magnet, and monitoring patients via closed circuit TV. Orients new hires and trains MRI Technologist, students, trainees. Trains MRI Technologists I in MRI procedures. May be required to direct, check and train other MRI employees in absence of MRI Supervising Technologist. Perform other related duties as necessary. Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
