The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for the execution of the clinical research studies of the NIH Nuclear Medicine program and be an active participant in the implementation of new Nuclear Medicine imaging methods. The successful candidate will perform advanced computer-based diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures on Clinical Center patients.  These include data acquisition and processing using a wide variety of radio pharmaceuticals, image reconstruction and display, camera calibration, region of interest analysis, data transfer and archiving, and operation of ancillary nuclear medicine laboratory equipment. Procedures utilizing gamma cameras and PET/CT will be performed routinely utilizing a wide variety of radionuclides to study organ perfusion, function, and metabolism.  You will be part of a multi-disciplinary research effort and have frequent contact with physicians, physicists, radiochemistry and radiopharmacy staff.

Must be able to reach hospital within 45 minutes of call back.Performs a variety of technical procedures that requires independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the utilization of rapidly evolving instrumentation, radiopharmaceuticals and multidisciplinary skills and techniques under the limited direction of a physician; supervision of the administrative director of diagnostic imaging; and the direct supervision of the Manager of Nuclear Medicine. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, an empathetic and instructional approach to patient contact, care, and monitoring; the procurement, preparation, quality control, dispensing, dose calibration, administration, and disposal of radiopharmaceuticals; the performance of quality control procedures; and the operation of imaging and clinical data processing computers and instrumentation. Responsibilities do not involve invasive procedures, but includes the delivery of therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals to a number of pathologies, under the direction of an authorized user. Performs all procedures utilizing ionizing radiation safely and effectively, applying federal, state and institutional regulations. Requires courteous, tactful and efficient communication skills with internal and external contacts outside the work group in order to better manage potential conflicts in scheduling multi modality procedures, patient preparations and patient availability. Requires efficiency in running the changing patient workflow. Includes operation of radiation detection devices in any area of the hospital for survey of radioactive waste or contamination or for clinical procedures in operating room. Requires availability for on-call and/or other emergency staffing.REQUIREMENTS:Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program. B.S. degree in nuclear medicine from an accredited college or university preferred. One (1) year of experience preferred. Registered by NMTCB as a CNMT, or Registered by ARRT in nuclear medicine.
