It was founded in 1918, by a Mississippi farmer whose dream was to establish a hospital that provided high-quality care, regardless of ability to pay.
Methodist has grown from a single hospital into a healthcare system that includes six adult hospitals, one children’s hospital, a home health agency, residential hospice, surgery and diagnostic centers, cancer treatment center, physician practices and outpatient clinics.
As Methodist was opening its first hospital a group of ladies, called Le Bonheur, began sewing clothes for orphaned children and over time realized the need for better medical care for children. This vision led to what is today a 255-bed, $350 million state-of-the-art facility that provides expert care for children from around the region and throughout the nation.
Because of one farmer and one sewing circle, we’re taking care of one patient at a time. By creating a culture and work environment that allows Associates to be at their very best, we are providing a great place for Associates to make a difference in our community. Great workplaces must foster a great culture. MLH was founded on the belief that one person, one team and one organization can make a difference: this is the Power of One. The Power of One culture that permeates our organization is deeply rooted in the wisdom of our founders.
Service. Quality. Integrity. Teamwork. Innovation.
