The Lead Sonographer performs a wide variety of leadership, technical and professional duties within the complex Ultrasound Imaging environment. Leads staff in navigating the complex patient population, is cognizant of age specific standards, supports patient and family centered care (PFCC), as demonstrated by working with patients and their families based on the 4 principles of PFCC: participation, dignity and respect, information sharing, and collaboration. This includes providing service excellence by creating a great "First Impression" by demonstrating exemplary customer service skills for all customer groups including patients, families/friends, physicians, staff and support department personnel. Responsibilities

  • 1. Assist with various administrative tasks to achieve the goals of the department as it pertains to service excellence, quality assurance, regulatory compliance and employee/patient relations as noted by the US manager. a. Assist the manager in communicating relevant service, quality or compliance information to staff in a timely manner. Ensure and/or document staffs understanding as necessary. b. Routinely acts as a liaison between physicians, patients, technical staff and management, and takes initiative to resolve issues and achieve service recovery when necessary. Reports issues back to manager in a timely manner. c. Provide manager with regular feedback re: staff performance.
  • 2. Assist the US manager with staff schedules, making adjustments as needed to ensure proper staffing levels sufficient to achieve quality patient care and efficient operations. a. Assist the US manager with creating staff schedules, staff shifts or work assignments as needed. b. Interact with physicians, technologists, and support staff in other delivery networks as needed to ensure proper scheduling and performance of high priority scans.
  • 3. Assist the US manager with patient schedules, making adjustments as needed to ensure all patients are seen in a timely manner (ideally within 24- 48 hours). a. Collaborate with providers, schedulers, Call Center and Fetal Therapy Coordinator to ensure timely and accurate scheduling for high risk patients when need arises.
  • 4. Assist with oversight of the environment of care, supply inventory, equipment maintenance, and QC procedures to ensure consistent, high quality, patient care. a. Proactively contacts senior engineer, work calls for technical support as imaging equipment issues occur. Documents or report service calls to manager. b. Orders supplies weekly consistent with exam volume and established par levels as documented by all areas to ensure adequate stock. c. Coaches staff to minimize supply waste.
  • 5. Performs a variety of technical and professional tasks a. Performs US when needed. b. Efficiently follows routine protocols proficient in advanced imaging
  • 6. Performs various clerical, record keeping, and QA tasks in order to maintain integrity in completeness of the AS and PACS patient record and billing.
  • 7. Participate in various learning, teaching, and research opportunities in order to further personal knowledge and expertise for oneself or others.
  • 8. Follows established safety precautions and procedures in the performance of all duties to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Baccalaureate Degree (Master's preferred). Associate (AS) degree considered but contingent upon completion of BA or BS degree within 18 months of hire.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of three (3) years as a Perinatal Diagnostic Sonographer in a high risk setting. Demonstrates leadership ability, is a strong team member, and displays the ability to successfully navigate a diverse population and large workload.

LICENSURE

Certification in Diagnostic Ultrasound Imaging for OB/GYN, Fetal ECHO and Nuchal Translucency

SPECIAL SKILLS

Level 1 and 2, follow-up growth, GYN and multiple Doppler scans. Certified in Fetal ECHO scanning. Must have excellent communication, organizational, and technical skills. Must demonstrate collaborative and leadership abilities.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Travel to off-sites may be required, based on staffing needs.
