PET/CT Technologist -- Per Diem
The physicians of Valley Radiology Consultants have been serving the North San Diego County area since 1971, providing our patients with an advanced array of diagnostic imaging and pain management services in two outpatient centers in Poway and Escondido. Our group of physicians is accompanied by a dedicated support staff of technologists, administrative staff and management. We are looking for a highly qualified PET/CT Technologist to join our team on a Per Diem basis.
Description:
- Perform high quality positron emission tomography/computed tomography images on patients while providing excellent care.
- Follow company established PET/CT protocols and procedures.
- Under the direction of the radiologist, administer radiopharmaceuticals to detect or treat diseases using radioisotopes.
- Guide patients through this sometimes-difficult process by kindly talking them through the steps and answering their questions and concerns regarding exam procedures and process.
- Monitor patients’ well-being during exams; recognize patient discomfort or medical problems and take appropriate action.
- Respond to physician questions and needs regarding patients.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Evaluates images for technical quality.
- Provides patient care essential to PET/CT procedures.
- Performs diagnostic PET/CT imaging procedures to include administration of oral contrast, injection of radio pharmaceutical and/or IV contrast and understands the contraindications associated with these.
- Protocol setup, patient positioning, reconstruction, and filming of images
- Utilizes scanning techniques, selects best plane, acquisition method (e.g., spiral, dynamic, multi-row detector), parameters (e.g., slice thickness, mA, time, algorithm, pitch) to best demonstrate anatomy and pathology in studies such as those performed for the head, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis and musculoskeletal.
- Network image transfers and archiving of image data.
- Documents clinical activities in a timely, comprehensive, and accurate manner.
- Modifies protocols as indicated with the radiologists' guidelines
Essential Responsibilities:
· Demonstrates an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation process in delivery of services to patients of the age group served.
· Exercises clinical judgment that conforms to established standards.
· Documents clinical activities in a timely, comprehensive, and accurate manner.
· Maintains standards of professional behavior established to enhance quality of service.
· Utilizes effective communication skills.
· Maintains equipment, supplies and work area in accordance with department guidelines.
· Implements VRC’s Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws.
Essential Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:
· Explains procedure to the patient, verifies patient history and confirms appropriateness of ordered exam.
· Utilizing a variety of software programs; based on imaging principles, area of interest to be demonstrated and patient conditions, slice thickness, scan time and other technical factors into computer.
· Positions and immobilizes patient in order to obtain diagnostic image(s) of area of interest.
· Recognizes adverse reactions or changes in patient condition and reacts appropriately.
· Observes all standards for radiation safety/protection in order to minimize dose.
· Utilizes scanning techniques, selects best plane, acquisition method (e.g.,spiral, dynamic, multi-row detector), parameters (e.g.,slice thickness, mA, time, algorithm, pitch) to best demonstrate anatomy and pathology in studies such as those performed for the head, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis and musculoskeletal.
· Modifies protocols as indicated by presence of pathology or trauma with the radiologist’s guidelines.
· Venipuncture skills
Education, Licensure and Experience:
· Graduate of a 2-year accredited school of Radiologic Technology or comparable training.
· PET/CT Certificate/License
· 1+ year of PET/CT Technologist experience required with successful completion of the department training program. Experience with 3D post processing Experience with PACS.
· PET/CT certification (A.R.R.T) required
· BLS certification
· Venipuncture skills is a must
· Experience with Siemens, Hitachi and GE Systems, RIS/PACS preferred.
Specific Skills Desired:
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within prescribed exam times and follow all VRC imaging protocols.
- Must possess understanding of the functionality of medical office operations, radiation safety, patient safety, while providing optimal patient care, and consideration for patient's circumstances
- Complies with all applicable policies, rules and regulations as outlined by VRC, State and Federal regulations including compliance with HIPAA privacy and security.
- Ability to maintain a calm and courteous demeanor and conduct business in a professional manner.
- Ability to make independent decisions in performing procedures and works well under minimal supervision.
