$200,000.00 - $208,500.00 USD annually.

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is a key member of the ASU Preparatory Academy Leadership Team, responsible for developing and executing a bold and integrated technology vision that supports the academic, operational, and strategic goals of ASU Prep and its affiliated partnership schools. The CTO oversees all aspects of information technology, data, cybersecurity, and educational technology innovation in a dynamic K-12 and digital learning environment. This role also drives the ethical and effective adoption of AI and emerging technologies to ensure ASU Prep remains at the forefront of educational excellence.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in Technology or related field, required.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in information management, cybersecurity, information technology or related field that demonstrates proven track record of driving IT security and strategy.
Minimum of 7 years of experience leading design and/or implementation of large-scale data infrastructure transformations.
Minimum of 7 years of experience with SaaS product teams; demonstrated leadership in UX strategy, Design Strategy, Software Engineering, Project Management
Minimum of 7 years of experience leading an ed-tech organization and a strong understanding of industry standard technologies including AI.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in strategic, high-level senior management roles.
Active AZ Department of Public Safety (DPS) IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Set and execute the overall technology strategy in alignment with ASU Prep's mission and the broader ASU charter.
Lead infrastructure and operations including network & systems, cloud & virtual Infrastructure, device management, and end user support.
Serve as a strategic advisor and member of the Senior Leadership Team, shaping decisions related to IT investments, digital transformation, and technology alignment across all schools and learning environments.
Maintain a collaborative partnership with ASU's Education Technology (ET) teams to align systems, security, and infrastructure strategies.
Oversee enterprise-wide cybersecurity, compliance, and data privacy programs, ensuring adherence to FERPA, HIPAA, and international data regulations.
Collaborate on AI Risk & Ethics policies to establish and implement responsible AI governance and risk mitigation practices.
Lead security risk assessments, incident response protocols, and training efforts across the organization.
Lead teams around enterprise applications and custom developments.
Direct the design, development, and integration of custom software platforms, including the SIS/ERP systems and integration services.
Oversee internal and third-party development teams, including software architects, backend/frontend developers, DevOps, and QA specialists.
Ensure all systems' scalability, performance, and responsiveness to user and operational needs.
Lead a data-driven culture by supporting data architecture, ETL pipelines, business intelligence dashboards, and predictive analytics.
Supervise the work of AI/Machine Learning Engineers and the AI Model Governance Lead to ensure secure, ethical, and effective use of AI.
Enable organizational decision-making through actionable data insights and forecasting.
Provide strategic leadership to LMS & Digital Tools Support, EdTech Integration Specialists, and the AI in the Classroom Team.
Guide the implementation of instructional technologies that improve learning outcomes for students and supports overall teacher effectiveness.
Partner with Professional Learning and AI Adoption teams to build staff capacity for tech-enabled teaching and learning.
Oversee the Project Management Office to ensure high-impact delivery of initiatives, change management, and innovation pilots.
Lead the evaluation, testing, and scale-up of emerging technologies especially those involving artificial intelligence or digital transformation.
Develop and maintain a product strategy roadmap that aligns with organizational goals and learner needs.
Prioritize innovation investments based on ROI, impact on student achievement, and user experience.
Align technology and marketing objectives to support enrollment, engagement, and retention.
Directly manage technology leaders across multiple domains (Infrastructure, Security, Development, Data, EdTech, PMO).
Foster a high-performance, inclusive, and innovative technology organization.
Recruit, develop, and retain talent to ensure continuity and excellence in all areas of IT and digital strategy.
Empower team leads to take ownership of projects, while maintaining strategic alignment and accountability.
Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include decisions related to selection, performance appraisal, discipline and salary recommendations.
Build strong and empowered teams by providing direction, delegation, counsel, mentoring and expertise to individual team leads, while retaining overall responsibility and accountability for results.
Promote and encourage the development, training and promotion of staff members to assure the perpetuation of a professional and competent workforce.
Provides project management guidance and leadership throughout the organization and to direct employees.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Acute expertise in K-12 educational IT systems, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and digital learning environments.
Demonstrated experience with regulatory compliance (FERPA, HIPAA), security pipeline management, and secure application development.
Strong understanding of educational technology standards (LTI, Common Cartridge), Student Information Systems, and major LMS platforms.
Demonstrated leadership in adopting and scaling AI tools and ethical frameworks in educational settings.
Expertise in enterprise architecture, system integration, and API strategy.
Strategic thinker with a strong ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, growth-focused organization.
