Hospitalist (Family/Internal Medicine) Locum Tenens Physician

Position Overview
A regional hospital in northeastern North Carolina is seeking board-certified Hospitalists for intermittent locum tenens coverage across day and night shifts. This is an inpatient-only role requiring comfort with ICU-level care, interdisciplinary rounding, and a collaborative care model supported by a critical care physician and Tele-ICU services. Orientation is required one day prior to the first shift.
Assignment Highlights
- Inpatient-only hospitalist coverage
- ICU management required (procedures optional)
- Epic EMR
- Tele-Neurology and Tele-ICU support in place
- Multiple subspecialties available on-site and via consult: cardiology, ortho, nephrology, surgery, psych, ID, urology
- Stroke and neuro patients managed with Tele-Neuro consults
- Average census: 15 patients/day
- Admissions: 2–3/day; 4–6/night
- Day physicians rotate admissions; nights covered by a dedicated nocturnist
- Join an established team of 11 hospitalist physicians
- HPA Healthcare is a Joint Commission–certified staffing agency

- Malpractice insurance fully covered
Skills & Experience
- Board Certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine – Required
- Active North Carolina Medical License – Required
- ACLS (AHA only) – Required
- ICU experience or comfort managing vent patients – Preferred
- Epic experience – Preferred
Assignment Schedule
Orientation: Required one day before first scheduled shift
Day Shifts (7a–7p):
- August 15, 16, 18, 20, 21
- September 15, 30
- October 1, 2, 24
- December 5, 19, 22, 23, 25
Night Shifts (7p–7a):
- August 14, 15
- November 28, 29, 30
- December 1–18, 26
ICU management required (procedures optional)
