JOB SUMMARY:
Performs quality Diagnostic Echocardiograms, fixed and portable, routine and emergent, inpatient and outpatient, for the purpose of for the purpose of diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of cardiac conditions. The Echocardiographer is responsible for performing diagnostic cardiac ultrasound examinations (echocardiograms) to assess heart structure and function. This role supports cardiologists in diagnosing and monitoring cardiovascular conditions by producing high-quality images and accurate preliminary findings while ensuring patient comfort and safety. Performs all examinations according to department protocol and physician direction. Participates in department Quality Improvement activities and equipment quality control plans. Adheres to Corporate Compliance initiatives, including proper coding and performance of Medical Necessity Checks. Performs in a manner consistent with the mission, vision and values of Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Generally works independently under the indirect supervision of the Imaging Services Coordinator. Assumes responsibility for call, weekend, and holiday coverage as needed. Additionally, dependent upon patient volumes and the needs of the Organization, employee may work varying shifts and/or assume these job duties at alternate sites within the healthcare system. Understanding that healthcare delivery is continually evolving, and departmental needs and goals are subject to change, responsibilities may be expanded or restricted at the discretion of the Imaging Services Coordinator and/or Department Director.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
- Perform transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress echocardiograms as ordered
- Prepare patients for procedures, explain exams, and ensure patient comfort
- Acquire and optimize cardiac ultrasound images according to established protocols
- Measure and calculate cardiac structures, blood flow, and functional parameters
- Recognize normal and abnormal cardiac anatomy and hemodynamics
- Provide preliminary technical findings to interpreting physicians
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in electronic medical systems
- Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot echocardiography equipment
- Adhere to infection control, safety, and patient privacy regulations
- Collaborate with cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
- Participate in quality assurance and continuing education activities
