Nuclear Medicine Technologist – RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)
- Deliver a full spectrum of Nuclear Medicine services to veterans at the White River Junction VA Medical Center.
- Prepare contrast and radiopharmaceutical materials under the direction of the radiologist; maintain thorough understanding of proper contrast material usage and patient safety protocols.
- Perform Nuclear Medicine examinations including GI Bleed studies, Cardiac Stress Tests, Bone Scans, HIDA Scans, DaTscans, GI Emptying studies, Parathyroid scans, and Lung Perfusion/Ventilation scans.
- Receive and interpret radiology requests for accuracy and appropriateness; maintain thorough knowledge of CPRS ordering processes and register, complete, cancel, and edit exams in the computerized information system.
- Perform and complete imaging studies within established guidelines for stat, pre-op, urgent, and routine examinations.
- Ensure quality of radiographic exams by maintaining high acceptability standards while minimizing patient dosage; document repeat/reject analysis and meet the established monthly measure of greater than 5% of total exams performed.
- Operate a wide variety of imaging equipment including Symbia Intevo Excel (Siemens) and D-Spect (Spectrum Dynamics Medical) to obtain examinations of acceptable quality.
- Maintain electronic records and files of exams performed; ensure all images and required paperwork are properly completed and scanned into the PACS system in correct orientation and on the correct patient.
- Apply Infection Control practices and safety procedures for patients and staff as mandated by Medical Center and Imaging Service policies for all imaging modalities.
- Record all doses of medications; properly identify patients using full name and social security number; verify correct contrast type/amount with a second person for timed examinations.
- Current ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) or NMTCB (Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board) certification.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Nuclear Medicine with understanding of advanced applications.
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology including location, appearance, and functioning of major and minor systems susceptible to radiographic illumination.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Proficiency in operating Nuclear Medicine imaging equipment and computerized patient record systems (CPRS/VistA).
- Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently.
- Must pass VA background investigation prior to beginning performance.
- Compliance with all VA credentialing, privileging, and mandatory training requirements per VHA Handbook 1100.19.
