General Description:

The Radiation Therapist I delivers specialized radiation therapy services to OU Health patients to aid Providers in the diagnosis, care, treatment and surveillance of simple to complex conditions, defects and/or diseases. This position is intended for those who are gaining experience as a Radiation Therapist or are experienced imaging professionals who wish to begin a career in Radiation Therapy.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision, provides patient centered care and support services as ordered by a care provider.

  • Ensures services are performed safely and with the highest quality standards, maintaining a consistent focus on patientcentric care.

  • Prepares patients for procedures and correlates clinical history with procedures ordered by Physicians.

  • Responds to inquiries from patients and family members, provides clear information regarding radiation therapy procedures and expected timelines.

  • Collaborates with team members across OU Health including Providers to provide exceptional patient care.

  • Utilizes a variety of highly specialized radiation therapy equipment and techniques to perform a diverse range of therapeutic procedures in accordance within established scope of practice guidelines.

  • Performs quality control checks, cleaning, disinfecting and other equipment maintenance tasks per manufacturer instructions for use and other regulatory guidelines.

  • Safely administers contrast per protocol and identifies, manages, and escalates contrast reactions and changes in patient condition.

  • Assists with quality assurance and performance improvement tasks as requested.

  • May provide on-call clinical coverage outside regularly scheduled duty hours on weekdays, weekends and holidays as assigned.

  • May support OU Health's academic partnerships by actively engaging in teaching of students in the radiologic program.

  • May serve as a departmental preceptor to provide instruction and mentorship to new or less experienced team members. Assists with onboarding of new team members.

General Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of an accredited imaging/radiology program as defined by ARRT.

Completion of JRCERT accredited Military Educational Program is accepted in lieu of other educational requirements.

Experience: No experience required.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.

ARRT(RT)(T) certification required within 6 months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates skill in applying principles of radiation therapy and/or radiologic technology, medical imaging, medical terminology, positioning of patients and medical ethics.

  • Applies core knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology related to radiation therapy and radiologic technologies associated with imaging specialty credentialed to perform.

  • Demonstrates ability and skill to apply theory, practices and techniques to perform, post-process, analyze and annotate study data or procedure documentation.

  • Ability to work as part of a diverse team and communicate effectively with others.

  • Displays consistency and dependability by reporting to work as scheduled.

  • Ability to be sensitive to patients physical and psychological needs.

  • Ability to maintain accurate records and work accurately with names, numbers, and codes.

  • Ability to draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to apply HIPAA guidelines and standards.

  • Ability to multi-task and remain calm in stressful situations

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and patient populations served

  • Ability to prioritize and complete clinical or non-clinical work assignments
