SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Radiology Nursing Supervisor providing nursing care to support and monitor patients undergoing MRI and CT where intravascular contrast agents are utilized. Fosters patient and family centered care and nursing services in accordance with the Brown University Healthand The Miriam Hospitals mission, vision, values, with consideration of the life span, including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Managing acute hypersensitivity and physiological drug reactions according to established treatment algorithm in reaction kits.
Appropriately administering reassurance, oxygen, antihistamine, intravenous fluids, beta2-agonist inhaler, epinephrine, and/or position changes
Understanding when to call for assistance and how to active emergency response system(s)

Provides optimum patient care utilizing the nursing process. Performs assessments and collection of data by interviewing, record reviewing, and documentation on appropriate assessment forms. Implements nursing intervention according to plan of care. Evaluates interventions based on attainment of patient outcomes.
Prioritizes patient needs and functions as patient advocate. Assesses the biological, psychological, sociological, and cultural needs of the patient and family. Provides healthcare instruction and procedural information to patients and families. Assists with preparation and distributes written patient education materials.

Assists with compilation of nursing Quality Assurance Activities. Maintains equipment, including emergency equipment, and supplies according to established protocols and procedures. May assist with ordering of supplies and equipment. Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures, and objectives. May assist with development of policies and procedures.
Works within ambulatory setting to assist with Radiology Nurse Navigator activities, providing coverage a minimum of 2 days per week, and up to 5 days a week as necessary for patient care.
Maintains and enhances professional expertise through appropriate educational opportunities and literature.

Performs all essential functions with consideration of the age-specific needs of the geriatric, adult, and adolescent patient. Fosters patient and family centered care and Nursing services in accordance with the Brown University Health and The Miriam Hospitals mission, vision, values, with consideration of the life span, including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns.
Performs other related duties, as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Must be a registered nurse with current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island
BLS certified.
Use judgment to call for assistance and activate emergency response system(s) when needed
Interprofessional skills to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress, referring physicians and staff, the radiology, fellow employees, suppliers, and service representative all others who they come in contact with during the course of the business day.
Analytical ability to assess and continuously re-evaluate patient condition and to determine appropriate course of action.
A high degree of interpersonal skills to educate and provide emotional support to patients and their families.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

EXPERIENCE:
Two years of progressively responsible RN clinical experience. Radiology experience preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing.
Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day. Subject to electrical and energy hazards. May lift and position patients and lift supplies up to 50 pounds.
INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Incumbent functions independently within a broad scope of department policies and practices; generally refers specific problems to supervisor only where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required

None.

Pay Range:

$35.70-$71.40
