Radiology Nurse Jobs in Washington, DC
A Radiology Nurse, also known as a Radiologic Nurse, is a highly specialized nursing professional who plays a critical role in the radiology field. They are responsible for prepping patients for radiologic procedures (like X-rays, MRI scans, or radiation therapy), monitoring patient's vital signs during procedures, administering medications and contrast agents, ensuring the patient's understanding of procedures, and providing aftercare. They also work closely with Radiologists, assist during invasive radiology procedures, and ensure a safe environment by adhering to radiology safety protocols.
To become a Radiology Nurse, a person needs to be a Registered Nurse (RN) and should have certain important skills such as critical thinking, communication, and attention to details. They should also have a firm understanding of radiology technology and safety. Some may choose to advance their career by becoming certified through the Association for Radiologic & Imaging Nursing (ARIN). Prior to becoming a Radiology Nurse, a person may have roles such as a Staff Nurse in a hospital or another healthcare facility, a Clinical Nurse, or a Medical-Surgical Nurse. These roles lend practical nursing experience and exposure to various medical scenarios which are invaluable in the field of Radiology Nursing.
