Radiation Therapist Jobs in Nebraska
A Radiation Therapist, also known as a Therapeutic Radiographer, plays a vital role in the radiology field. They are primarily responsible for administering radiation treatments to patients suffering from cancer and other diseases. Their duties encompass all aspects of treatment, from initial planning stages, through to monitoring the patient's response to the therapy. They work closely with Radiation Oncologists and medical physicists, ensuring the radiation doses are accurately delivered to the patient's tumor site while sparing the surrounding normal tissue.
A Radiation Therapist should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as they are dealing with patients who may be distressed or anxious. Proficiency in using sophisticated radiation therapy equipment and software, understanding of radiation safety measures, and strong attention to detail are also essential. They must have a certification in Radiation Therapy, typically earned after completing a Bachelor's degree program in Radiation Therapy or Radiologic Technology, followed by a passing score on the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) exam. Prior to becoming a Radiation Therapist, a person may have roles such as Radiation Therapy Technologist, Radiologic Technologist, or Medical Dosimetrist.
